Intervenção arquitectónica em contexto arqueológico. O Atelier 15 em Idanha-a-Velha

Abstract

This master thesis is the result of a discussion begun in the discipline of Architectural Intervention in Archaeological Context of the course of Integrated Master Degree in Architecture. Based on the theme of the Intervention on the ruin, we selected five projects in Idanha-a-Velha, by the architects Alexandre Alves Costa and Sergio Fernandez, that together form the Atelier 15. In order to build a critical reasoning about these interventions, it has become absolutely necessary to read and seizure the conservation and restoration theories and the duality of speeches against the ruin and the monument, from John Ruskin and Viollet-le-Duc, to the most current authors, and the prospects of Françoise Choay and Ignacio González-Varas, among others. We also explore the terminology concepts, that are part of this field, often ambiguous, and the International Letters and Recommendations. We seek to expose the richness of what was Idanha-a-Velha, and the fragments that still linger of Rome, the Swabians and Visigoths, the Arabs, and the Portuguese reconquest, in order to arouse the interest and curiosity of those who want paunch the past of Idanha, revealing the importance of recognition of this past to the contemporary interventions on the ruin. The approach is to reconcile the concepts and the evolution of the acting principles on the heritage with the interventions made by the studio in Idanha-a-Velha, since it´s a complex place, where the confluence of times and civilizations attest a singularity able to raise any enchantment.
