Arquitetura e construção de paisagem. O Douro e a Adega da Quinta do Granjal

Abstract

This thesis is based on an early opportunity to design and build a winery in the Douro Region. Understanding the evolution of an academic formation, ideology and its relationship with the various elements imposed by reality, seeks to contribute to an improvement of the discipline. The innocence, the evolution, the development, the construction and reflection will launch other issues, induced by the learning opportunity, which will determine several meanings, hierarchies, interpretations, trends and tensions around wine architecture and the Douro landscape. It aims to understand the different architectural attitudes, in what we can consider the multiplicity of contexts in Douro, usually interpreted as a single territory. It also seeks to develop a more pragmatic reading of that territory, which is in continuing transformations, where technology, culture, economy, society, wine and history create a complex system of relationships and sometimes misleading interpretations, characterized by an aesthetical mood associated with modes of the past, and speculations of the present. The confluence of these experiences, readings and interpretations pursues to create a reflection on the role of the architect and his work in a broader vision of the territory.
