Abstract

In Rio de Moinhos beach (Esposende, Northwestern Portugal), in an ancient lagoon deposit which is only accessible at low tide (referred to as Formação da Aguçadoura), a macrolithic assemblage was found, apparently en place. Taking into account two 14C results, this assemblage is of Holocene age. However it could date from two different periods: an older one, from the middle/second half of the 5th millennium cal BC, or a more recent one, from the middle/second half of the 4th millennium cal BC. The determination of the exact chronology depends on the development of current research.
