| Title: | Numerical analysis of a RC slab considering the combined effect of self-induced stresses and external loads |
| Issue Date: | 2008 |
| Abstract: | : This paper intends to provide an insight on the possible consequences of the self-induced stresses due to cement heat of hydration and shrinkage (which vary within the cross section of the structural element), combined with the ones arising from external loads, for a continuous solid slab. A methodology to achieve this goal is presented, with special regard to the computation of the evolution of the temperature field in concrete, considering the important effect of the heat of hydration. Simultaneously, the moisture field in concrete is computed in order to ascertain the relative humidity changes in the pore structure caused by drying and the subsequent potential shrinkage strains. Evolution of mechanical properties of concrete is accounted through the equivalent age concept. Mechanical analyses of the slab subjected to both self-induced stresses and external loads (service conditions), with due consideration to concrete creep and cracking, are carried out. |
