Abstract

In the last few years we have seen a growing interest in the healthcare technology solutions. There is also an increasing growth in the mobile handheld devices, namely smartphones, with increased connectivity capacities. The integration between these devices and the healthcare service industry has been neglected in the patient perspective. It is in this context, in partnership with Kentra Technolgoies healthcare solutions, that this study was born. In this paper a mobile alert service was designed to support the needs of the patients in healthcare clinics. The service design used the Multi-level service design methodology which focuses on the benefits the service can provide to the user. Several interviews, questionnaires and observation session where conducted both to patients and healthcare professionals. From these the most relevant and important experience factors to the patient were identified and the service designed. Using android technology the service was constructed along with all the accessories infra stricter needed for its support. A mobile smartphone app was developed capable of providing healthcare alerts such as pill reminder, consultations, clinic status, among others. Finally the service developed was validated using a small focus-group of patients interacting with the app developed.
