Title: Cost efficiency, production and value-added models in the analysis of bank branch performance
Issue Date: 2005
Abstract: This paper develops a framework for performanceappraisal in the context of a bank branch network. A dataenvelopment analysis model is advocated that can identify bothinput and output inefficiencies from a cost minimizationperspective. The model is then applied to the analysis of a bankbranch network and the production and value-added approachesare deployed jointly to give a comprehensive assessment of bankbranch efficiency. The sources of underperformance are identifiedand their managerial implications are explored.
