Abstract

Compared with other areas of business, health care has a very complex semantic. This represents a major challenge for companies that develop information systems for the industry, regarding the definition of internal data models, such as, and especially, in the exchange and sharing of clinical information between different systems. Currently each health institution (hospital, health center, clinic or doctor's office) has its own medical application developed independently from each other, and data management is done following each methodology. These do not guarantee the exchange and sharing of clinical information between institutions. There is, therefore, the necessity of the existence of standards that specify the structure and semantics of clinical documents allowing its exchange and sharing.
