| dc.description | Currently all the STCP's public buses in Porto offer free Internet to it's passenger through WiFi hotspots which are connected to the city's vehicular network through a joint-venture between Veniam, STCP and The Future Cities project. It is common for smartphone users to have the WiFi always turned on on the mobile devices. Having the WiFi on, all the time a bus passes by the user, the mobile device will try to connect to the STCP network. Since the bus is moving, the user will lose connection soon after. It can take some time until the connection is again reestablished though the cellular network. The main goal of the thesis is to evaluate what is the impact of the problem described above and propose a mechanism which could avoid the connection of users which aren't on the bus. This mechanism should be implemented only on the Access Points. | |
