Abstract

This dissertation aims to explore the possibilities of preservation and dissemination of cultural heritage through the digital media and multimedia tools. In this project we intend to conduct an exploratory research on the potential of digital media and multimedia tools , not only to communicate and preserve information related with cultural heritage issues, but also for its ability to transmit records (Sound , visual, audiovisual ) about certain cultural environments. Consequently we will develop a conceptual approach to the concepts of memory and cultural identity, about their presence in cyberspace and on the types of relationship that these concepts can establish different multimedia tools. There will also take place an investigation about the potential of multimedia elements and online distribution channels as methods for the preservation of cultural heritage. The practical part of the dissertation is set up through the project Sete Palheiras that is embodied by the implementation of a website that fulfills the functions to transmit and disseminate information about the straw crafts characteristic of the municipality of Fafe , to preserve their memory and to open the practice to the participation of both local and global community .
