Title: Design and rapid product evolution
Issue Date: 2002
Abstract: Designing freeform surfaces and renderings forcommunication purposes. Nowadays, technological advances in CAD/CAM and RapidPrototyping (RP) systems demand the integrationof CAD models in the industrial downstreamprocesses.Rapid Prototyping systems emerged in 1987and are closer to the revolutionary concept "afactory in a box". These new technologies arebecoming a powerful tool for concurrentengineering, creating in this way a new competitiveedge. Economic concept modellers are nowcommercially available and supported by Internetinfrastructures, can play an important role in thefuture evolution and market demand of theseadditives manufacturing processes. The aim of this study is to present a survey ofthe historical and future evolution of RPtechnologies and the specific implications in thedesign methodology.
