Divulgação de coleções museológicas através de videocasts

Abstract

The aim of this research project was to structure and establish a process for transforming and adapting science communication content originally produced by the Museum of Natural History and Science of the University of Porto in the form of podcasts for a children's audience by converting them into videocasts. The research was based on field research on the web. Initially, a study was carried out on the history of the podcast and its implementation in cultural institutions and the resulting impact. Subsequently, the concept of a videocast and the benefits offered by this tool were explored. Considering multimedia technologies as tools that promote the educational aspect of museums, allowing for a more dynamic and interactive presentation of their collection, as well as resources for publicizing the museum itself, the research moved on to practical cases, with the aim of analyzing the use of videos in other cultural institutions. With video products already completed and implemented in other museums serving as solid references, we went on to analyze the different types of audiovisual formats, to understand which was most suitable for the project. With the format chosen (animation), niche research was carried out to discover the existing variants of this format and the techniques used to create them. Based on the pedagogical examples previously researched and analyzed, the most suitable techniques for educational purposes were selected. In short, the aim of this dissertation was to clarify the potential inherent in videocasts as educational tools for museum institutions and to understand which audiovisual formats and techniques have the potential to retain and maintain the attention of young people.
