Title: Anglophone Travellers in Portugal: Exploring Heritage through Digital Humanities and Multimedia
Issue Date: 2025-07-23
Abstract: This thesis explores how Anglophone residents in Portugal perceive, reinterpret, and emotionally engage with Portuguese cultural heritage through multimedia-driven participatory workshops. By collecting visual and narrative responses in a series of workshops with anglophone participants living in Porto, the project reveals a shift away from traditional, monument-based views of heritage, emphasizing atmosphere, routine, neighborhood identity, and concerns about accessibility and gentrification. These insights informed the conceptual development of a digital archive to be integrated into the existing Anglophone Travellers in Portugal platform, hosted by CETAPS. While the objective of this stage was not to build the archive itself, a detailed wireframe was created in Figma to define its structure, user interactions, and multimedia components. Designed as a dynamic and interpretive space, the archive encourages users to engage with heritage not as something fixed, but as something open to personal interpretation and future transformation. The project situates itself within the fields of Digital Humanities, user experience design, and participatory multimedia, offering a creative framework for co-creating and reimagining cultural memory in digital environments
