O Movimento Cineclubista em Portugal e no Brasil: Um estudo comparativo da dinâmica de trabalho de cineclubes nos períodos da pandemia e pós-pandemia

Abstract

The Film Society movement, or Cineclub Movement, can be described as groups of cinema enthusiasts who come together to watch, share, and discuss the cinematic experience and everything surrounding it. Throughout history, Film Societies have shaped their behaviors and asserted their positions in response to wars, dictatorships in various countries, the imperialist audiovisual market, as well as cultural shifts in media consumption through new formats like TV, VHS, and streaming platforms. Furthermore, in 2020, with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the cineclub movement faced yet another moment of crisis, as collective gatherings had to be suspended due to safety and prevention measures. Considering this context, based on a bibliographical review that examines cinema as an object, the cinephile as a subject, and the resulting cineclub movement, this research aims to understand, analyze, and compare, through interviews with cineclub organizers and movement specialists, the work dynamics cineclubs had to adopt during the pandemic to continue their projects. It focuses on cineclubs in the cities of Porto, Portugal, and Curitiba, Brazil, to understand how the cineclub movement endured during the Covid-19 outbreak in these two locations, what adjustments were made, the current challenges cineclubs face, and perceptions regarding the new relationship between people and cinema and the movement. Additionally, it seeks to understand the evolution of the movement in relation to society, based on these testimonies, considering the Covid-19 pandemic and the rise of streaming consumption, ultimately aiming to comprehend the role of cineclubs today, whether formal or marginal, in order to take a step forward in understanding their formative power in society.
