| Title: | Crowdsourcing no Combate ao Crime em Cabo Verde |

| Abstract: | Besides the obvious benefits, the recent developments in new telecommunication technologies have brought with it a new type of organized crime. However, we should look at these new technologies not only as a threat but also as a weapon in the fight against crime. Crime, besides provoking structural tensions, promotes an absence of moral regulation within society. In Cape Verdean society, the notion of crime is provided for in the code of criminal procedure, however, in recent times a strong growth of crime rates has been happening in the country. The implementation of a crowd-sourcing system, allowing citizens of Cape Verde not only to report the occurrence of crimes, but also to assist in the recovery of stolen objects, and the possibility of access to those same data, will allow greater control and decrease petty crime in the country. This study helped to define how the rising concept of crowd-sourcing, being applied to the fight against crime in Cape Verde, can bring a series of benefits, and that the Cape Verdean society would be interested in participating in a platform of this type. The data collected through the system could also be used in research projects of the current state of the crime in Cape Verde. |
| Description: | Para além dos óbvios benefícios, o recente desenvolvimento de novas tecnologias de comunicação trouxe consigo um novo tipo de criminalidade organizada. No entanto, devemos olhar para estas novas tecnologias não apenas como uma ameaça, mas também como uma arma no combate ao crime de uma forma geral. O crime além de tensões estruturais, promove uma ausência de regulação moral no seio da sociedade. Na sociedade cabo-verdiana, a noção de crime encontra-se prevista no código de processo penal, no entanto, nos últimos tempos tem-se notando um forte crescimento da criminalidade no país. A implementação de um sistema de crowdsourcing permitindo aos cidadãos de Cabo Verde não só relatar a ocorrência de crimes, mas também ajudar na recuperação de objetos roubados, e a possibilidade de acesso a esses mesmos dados, irá permitir um maior controlo e diminuição da pequena criminalidade no país. Este estudo ajudou a definir a forma como o conceito em ascensão de crowdsourcing, sendo aplicado ao combate ao crime em Cabo Verde, irá trazer uma série de benefícios, sendo que a sociedade cabo-verdiana teria todo interesse em participar numa plataforma desete tipo. Os dados colecionados através do sistema poderão também ser utilizados em projetos de investigação do estado atual do crime em Cabo Verde. |
