| Title: | Memória de trabalho transitória versus executiva: relações com o desempenho no Wisconsin Card Sorting Test em pessoas com Esquizofrenia |

| Abstract: | The purpose of this study was to verify the impact of working memory on the performance in Wisconsin Card Sorting Test and to analyse the differential contribution of both transitory and executive working memory in this performance. In this context, 33 participants with Schizophrenia took part in study in which they were assessed with WCST and two working memory measures (Digit Span and Letter-Number Sequencing). Correlations and regression analysis identified Letter-Number Sequencing has a better predictor of WCTS results. Even when considering both Forward and Backward Digit Span, we found that the latter was more correlated with WCST. These results point out that executive working memory type is more important for the success in the WCST than simple transient brief information storage. |
| Description: | Pretendemos analisar neste estudo o impacto da memória de trabalho no desempenho do Wisconsin Card Sorting Test e analisar o possível contributo diferencial de duas tipologias de memória de trabalho (transitória e executiva) neste desempenho. Desta forma, 33 participantes com Esquizofrenia foram avaliadas com o WCST e com duas medidas de memória de trabalho (Memória de Dígitos e Sequência de Letras e Números). As análises correlacionais e as análises de regressão apontam para uma maior contribuição da Sequência de Letras e Números para o desempenho no WCST. Mesmo no âmbito do teste de Memória de Dígitos, a tarefa de ordem inversa apresentou correlações mais fortes com os resultados do WCST do que a tarefa de ordem directa. Estes resultados indiciam a existência de um impacto mais preponderante da memória de trabalho do tipo executivo do que a simples capacidade transitória de retenção breve de informação para o sucesso na realização do WCST. |
