| Abstract: | An education of excellence is today a clear aim of any modern society. In Portugal, the issue of rehabilitation of school buildings is presented as a strategic investment, which aims, among others, to ensure a proper hygrothermal performance and to improve the energy efficiency and the indoor air quality of buildings, regarding the codes of practice. The rehabilitation of school buildings should be performed not only in order to meet requirements for energy efficiency but also to optimize the comfort levels for teachers and students, maximizing the conditions for better learning. The most important goals of this work were the characterization of the service performance of school buildings and the presentation of a methodology for the optimization of constructive solutions. The first objective was accomplished by conducting two experimental campaigns for evaluation of the indoor environmental quality and allowed for a critical appraisal of the implementation of the legislation, suggesting possible changes. The second objective was achieved through a procedure of multi-objective optimization, including technical and economic aspects, of constructive solutions to be applied in the rehabilitation of school buildings. A careful review of the state of the art of rehabilitation of school buildings, assessment of the hygrothermal performance and numerical simulation of the hygrothermal and energy performance, allowed systematizing all the information that served as support for structuring the tasks of the experimental characterization, of the numerical simulation and of the multiobjective optimization. Was performed an optimization and a technical and economic analysis of constructive solutions to be used in the rehabilitation of school buildings. That work culminated in the development of a software tool in Excel environment that optimizes the insulation level of the exterior wall and roof of the two types of school buildings. Its implementation was achieved by applying a life cycle analysis in conjunction with the Pareto fronts of optimal solutions, which resulted from a multi-objective optimization with evolutionary algorithms. | Description: | Uma educação de excelência é, hoje em dia, um objectivo claro de qualquer sociedade moderna. Em Portugal a questão da reabilitação dos edifícios escolares apresenta-se como um investimento estratégico, que visa, entre outros objectivos, assegurar um desempenho higrotérmico adequado e melhorar a eficiência energética e a qualidade do ar interior dos edifícios, respeitando a legislação em vigor. A reabilitação dos edifícios escolares deve ser realizada não só com o intuito de cumprir requisitos de eficiência energética mas também o de optimizar os níveis de conforto para professores e alunos, maximizando, por esta via, as condições para uma melhor aprendizagem. Os objectivos fundamentais deste trabalho consistiram na caracterização do desempenho em serviço dos edifícios escolares e na apresentação de uma proposta de metodologia para a optimização de soluções construtivas. O primeiro objectivo foi cumprido através da realização de duas campanhas experimentais de medições de parâmetros ambientais e de qualidade do ar interior e permitiu efectuar um balanço crítico da aplicação da legislação actual, sugerindo possíveis alterações. O segundo objectivo foi atingido através de um procedimento de optimização multi-objectivo, incluindo aspectos técnicos e económicos, de soluções construtivas tipo a aplicar na reabilitação de edifícios escolares. A revisão cuidada do estado actual do conhecimento, ao nível da reabilitação de edifícios escolares, da avaliação do desempenho higrotérmico e da simulação numérica do desempenho higrotérmico e energético, permitiu sistematizar toda a informação que serviu de suporte à estruturação das tarefas de caracterização experimental e aos estudos de simulação numérica e de optimização multi-objectivo. Em síntese, considera-se que este trabalho constitui um contributo original para a avaliação da aplicação prática da legislação actual e do seu impacto na reabilitação de edifícios escolares, sugerindo alterações e propondo alternativas estratégicas para o modelo de edifício escolar reabilitado. É ainda apresentada uma metodologia de optimização de soluções construtivas que inclui objectivos de eficiência energética, de conforto dos ocupantes e de investimento económico.
