Title: | Building and Using Load Profiles in Energy Market Operation |
Issue Date: | 2008 |
Abstract: | In open energy markets load profiles play a very important role. They may be used by competing entities for accessing their load demands. Besides, loss allocation may also be based on load profiles. Moreover, settlement process, between distribution operators and traders, demands hourly consumption data that are not generally available, in particular, for LV consumers. This paper describes the Portuguese practice concerning the establishment and application of load profiles for market operation. A new clustering approach was conceived to build on typical load diagrams. This algorithm uses real load diagrams obtained in measurement campaigns to create classes, defined in the commercial information space that maximizes the compactness of the diagrams in each class. This work was developed in the framework of a contract with EDP (the Portuguese distribution operator) and the results were endorsed by the regulatory authority that adopted the proposed profiles for market usage. |
