Memória.Território. Desenho. Ilha da Madeira. Por uma arquitectura como paisagem

Abstract

This work is born from a concern that was growing along the academic path: the landscape construction in Madeira territory. The work tries to summon the memory, the territory and the drawing as three topics that intersect constantly and are confronted generating concerns. We seek to build a personal posture, a way of looking at the Madeira territory that shelters under the title in three moments. The frst focuses on the strategy of confrontation with the memory as a tool to question the "return to home". The second recognizes the existing as project material and the third sees the architect while a process strategist[1], aware of the citizenship of the exercise of architecture. We venture a reading of the place of origin, made of approaches, advances and retreats that seeks read-communicate this territory, what defnes it, to then become part of these readings in principles and drawing. Principles that are seen as assemblies, such as the frame of an open script, to be built also by the other, for all the others who are summoned at the time of thinking this place. The work and the territory are therefore a place-research that can be read as an open system that seeks becoming-place. It is this place, of which in the search for project awakenings, we seek to read-think-communicate strategies to understand it and transform. It was intended from the outset to develop a photographic collection in order to register the structural aspects of the Madeira territory: built heritage, erudite constructions, and gestures that denounced a kind of living. We intend to study here how landscape and work can express a sense of living, of culture, of community, in its functional and formal unit. It's important to refer that the work speaks of landscape and not only territory, because. On the one hand, we talk about how they overlap in time the signals resulting from the actions inherent in the life of the communities that inhabit this territory. On the other refers the reality and objective of the relationship between architecture and landscape, but also how to read, to interpret this material reality in the construction of a universe of representation of reality, the construction of a coding this reality and seeking the understanding of the same keys. So speaking of landscape and not just of territory means to speak of an operating speed, of a process, of transformations, interaction mechanisms between the communities that share the same territory. So speaking of the relationship between architecture and landscape means, therefore, speak of a dynamic reality; the dynamics of transformation and its speed; the ephemerality of each state of each condition; the continuing desire to print in the territory the marks that correspond to the actions of dwelling. So speaking of the relation between architecture and landscape means introducing the variable time in our reading. In this perspective, the records displayed in this work want to be as representation of the territory at the present time, so as to defne a memory for the future and simultaneously a personal imaginary, that will eventually support future works.
