| Abstract: | 'Journey to another East' aims to leverage travelling in order to understand architecture, the world and life. We consider that travelling is to wander over the planet while observing it critically, which makes it a potential operational instrument at Architecture's service. To travel is crucial for the development of a mental map full of images, which's most valuable and direct sources are those that architecture, when in action, provides to our senses. It is based on this subconscious map, that we explore the themes and the steps taken by some of the travelling masters, in a way to understand their journey experience as a transformative engine of their thought process. The construction of this narrative is ruled by a structure that sits on what we consider the main pillars inseparable to travelling: - the departure, the journey and the return. It is under this argument that we try to challenge the understanding of the different spaces visited throughout our own journey. By revisiting them with different lenses we are allowing ourselves to create meaning in spaces of silence - spaces where we are given the opportunity to embrace multiple journeys inside the journey itself. |
| Description: | 'Viagem a outro Oriente' tem em vista o aprofundamento do estudo da temática da viagem como meio de compreensão da arquitectura, do mundo e da vida. É nosso objectivo encarar a viagem como entrega total a uma deambulação planetária de observação crítica, tornando-a um instrumento operativo ao serviço da disciplina da Arquitectura. Viajar constitui uma acção decisiva para o desenvolvimento de um mapa mental nutrido de imagens, cujas fontes directas e mais valiosas são aquelas que a arquitectura, aquando a sua experimentação, fornece aos nossos sentidos. É sob a extensão desse mapa do subconsciente que nos debruçaremos sobre os temas e as consequências das viagens efectuadas por alguns mestres viajantes, de modo a compreender as suas experiências de viagem como motor de transfiguração na expressão do seu pensamento. A construção desta narrativa rege-se por uma espinha dorsal que assenta sobre o que consideramos serem os três pilares indissociáveis à viagem: - a partida, a jornada e o regresso. É sob esse referencial que procuraremos questionar a condensação dos significados que revestem os diversos espaços percorridos ao longo da nossa própria jornada, revisitando-a à luz de diferentes retinas, de modo a que nos seja possível compreender os lugares de silêncio pelos quais nos foi possível estabelecer múltiplas viagens dentro da própria viagem. |
