Adhesives in the footwear industry
Footwear manufacturing is basically a process of transformation and assembly of various components made up of several materials where different adhesives play a key role, because without them, the shoe would lack shape and structure. This paper aims to understand the importance of adhesives in the footwear industry. It is necessary to identify the different processes in a shoemaking where adhesives are involved and the different adhesive joints produced, as well as their technical requirement...
Ongoing research on seismic safety assessment
Research on seismic safety assessment has been the centre of great interest among the scientific community in recent years. Although the devastating impact of earthquakes on current society should be incentive enough to increase research, the development of more realistic mechanical behaviour models and the continuous enhancement of computation capabilities are paramount factors contributing a great deal to the increase of such interest. In this context, three research areas can be identified...
Time-dependent failure criteria for polymer matrix composites: a review
This article reviews several theoretical approaches for lifetime predictions proposed for polymer and polymer-based matrix composites. All these theories can be classified as global and homogenous approaches. Actually, regarding engineering applications, the global and homogeneous analyses are more convenient. Fracture mechanics, damage mechanics, and energy-based failure criteria are presented and illustrated with published experimental data.
