Representação do papel do pai no aleitamento materno

Abstract

Resumo da dissertação:O aleitamento materno, na maioria das culturas, tem sido considerado pela sociedade, como de responsabilidade exclusivamente da mulher. Entretanto, é reconhecida a relevância da presença e da participação do pai durante a amamentação, seja contribuindo para o seu sucesso, como também para o desenvolvimento da criança, por meio do fortalecimento das relações familiares. Este estudo foi proposto com a finalidade de compreender, no contexto familiar e sob a ótica do pai, a representação do seu papel durante o aleitamento materno e conhecer os fatores que facilitam ou dificultam sua participação nesse período. Utilizamos a metodologia da pesquisa qualitativa, tendo a dialética como referencial teórico e metodológico, o que permitiu desvelar a realidade estudada para compreendê-la e apontar as mudanças necessárias. Segundo os pais entrevistados, o que mais dificulta sua participação no período do aleitamento materno é a elevada carga horária de trabalho. Nos discursos observou-se que muitos dos entrevistados relataram ter acompanhado o monitoramento da saúde da mulher e do bebê no pré-natal; expressaram a satisfação em poder cuidar dos filhos e de terem uma participação mais efetiva na vida privada da família, papéis desejáveis do “novo pai”. Ao mesmo tempo, apesar destes achados, constatou-se que alguns ainda permanecem com resquícios da visão tradicional do papel do pai; afirmando que o aleitamento materno é função exclusiva da mulher. O estudo permitiu identificar evolução nas atitudes masculinas e, ao mesmo tempo, constatar a necessidade de um maior investimento dos profissionais de saúde, dentre esses o nutricionista, em ações educativas direcionadas aos pais (mãe/pai). Dissertation abstract:The maternal breast feeding, in most of the cultures, it has been considered by the society, as of responsibility exclusively of the woman. However, the relevance of the presence is recognized and of the father's participation during the breast-feeding, be contributing to his/her success, as well as for the child's development, through the invigoration of the family relationships. Based on the nutritional importance of breast-feeding, this study intended to understand, within a family context and from a male perspective, the father’s role in the breast-feeding process as well as the factors that promote or inhibit his involvement. The qualitative research methodology used in this study was based on dialect theory, which allowed the researcher to identify and understand the factors that impact a father’s involvement in breast-feeding. The majority of fathers interviewed identified time spent out of the home in gainful employment as a major deterrent to participation in the breast-feeding process. Most participants indicated they carefully monitored the health status both of the mother and child, expressed satisfaction in caring for the child, and conveyed a desire to participate more effectively in family life. These are the roles identified by the “new father’s.” However, the findings also suggest that some fathers maintain a very traditional view of parenting where breastfeeding is the sole responsibility of the mother. The present study identified some evidence of change in the attitude of men toward traditional parenting roles. This suggests an important opportunity for health care professionals to effectively educate parents about the nutritional benefits of breast-feeding, to encourage involvement of both parents in supporting the process as well as to emphasize their role as caregivers from the prenatal period through birth and childhood.
