The aim of this research, divided into three studies, was to adapt the Vocational Identity Scale (VIS) to Portuguese. The research, carried out with samples of secondary (n = 235) and higher education students (n = 208), involved the translation of the scale and the analysis of its psychometric characteristics. Acceptable levels of internal consistency were obtained. The convergent validity of the VIS was assessed based on the correlations between vocational identity, on the one hand, and career indecision and self-esteem, on the other. The correlations observed followed the expected pattern from a theoretical point of view. ConÞ rmatory factor analysis revealed that the model that best Þ t the data, in the two subsamples, evidenced one dimension. No gender differences were found, but college students showed higher levels of vocational identity. The VIS’s validity and reliability, despite the preliminary nature of these studies, provide support for its future use in research.pt_PT
