The effectiveness of web-based interventions to promote health behaviour change in adolescents: a systematic review
Although web-based interventions are attractive to researchers and users, the evidence about their effectiveness in the promotion of health behaviour change is still limited. Our aim was to review the effectiveness of web-based interventions used in health behavioural change in adolescents regarding physical activity, eating habits, tobacco and alcohol use, sexual behaviour, and quality of sleep. Studies published from 2016 till the search was run (May-to-June 2021) were included if they were...
Dissemination of sulfonamide resistance genes (sul1, sul2, and sul3) in Portuguese Salmonella enterica strains and relation with integrons
In 200 sulfonamide-resistant Portuguese Salmonella isolates, 152 sull, 74 sul2, and 14 sul3 genes were detected. Class 1 integrons were always associated with sul genes, including sul3 alone in some isolates. The sul3 gene has been identified in isolates from different sources and serotypes, which also carried a class I integron with aadA and dfrA gene cassettes.
Characterization of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases, antimicrobial resistance genes, and plasmid content in Escherichia coli isolates from different sources in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
We analyse the diversity of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs), antibiotic resistance genes, and plasmid content among Escherichia coli from a community and a hospital setting in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil. ESBL producers (CTX-M-2, CTX-M-9, CTX-M-59) belonged to different phylogroups/sequence types, and bla(CTX-M) were identified in IncA/C plasmids, reinforcing the possible intraplasmid evolution of bla(CTX-M-59) from bla(CTX-M-2) and the implication of IncA/C on bla(CTX-M) spread.
Successful application of the DiversiLab repetitive-sequence-based PCR typing system for confirmation of the circulation of a multiresistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa clone in different hospital wards
The applicability of the repetitive-sequence-based PCR (rep-PCR) based DiversiLab system was tested compared with the pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) to type a phenotypically similar subset of a large collection of multiresistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains isolated during a 17-month period from patients treated in different wards including 4 intensive care units (ICUs). Five environmental P. aeruginosa isolates obtained from one of the ICUs were also included. The DiversiLab syste...
First description of qnrS1-IncN plasmid in a ST11 Salmonella Enteritidis clinical isolate from Portugal
The presence of qnr and gepA genes was investigated among 300 nontyphoidal Salmonella showing decreased susceptibility to ciprofloxacin obtained from different sources in Portugal (2002-2004). The qnrS1 gene was located within a conjugative IncN plasmid in a ST11 Salmonella Enteritidis strain from human origin, a serotype commonly implicated in human infections and frequently encountered in poultry.
