Estudo cefalométrico de valores normativos e dimorfismo sexual em brasileiros adultos residentes em Passo Fundo/RS

Abstract

The present study aimed to compare the averages measured for adults living in Passo Fundo/RS with the norms suggested by Tweed, and also to evaluate the sexual dimorphism in male and female samples. Twenty men (mean age 22,9 years) and twenty women (mean age 22,7 years) living in Passo Fundo/RS a city of the south at Brazil, were studied. The subjects were caucasians, had esthetically facial profile, complete permanent dentition except thrird molars, no previous orthodontic treatment, no bad occlusion, history of trauma, parafuncional habits and breathing or swallowing disorder. Fourting measurements (10 angular and 4 linear) and Tweed's cephalometric discrepancy were analysed on each lateral radiograph using the software Radiocef 2000®. Arithmetic mean and standard deviation were calculated for each measurement. Independent-samples t Student tests were perfomed for statiscal evaluation. The results showed significant normative differences in FMA, FMIA, IMPA, SNA, interincisal angle, occlusal plane/SN angle, Z angle and facial angle). Significant sex differences were found only in the linear measurements (Wits, total lip, total chin and lower facial height). It can be concluded that race is an important variable in the cephalometric analysis while sex have modest influence in the proportional norms (angular).
