O Anuário da Região Duriense 1940: uma fonte para o estudo sincrónico do Douro

Abstract

The «Anuário da Região Duriense 1940» organized and edited by J. Alcino Cordeiro, is an important historical source for the study of the Douro Demarcated Region, Portugal, within the Estado Novo period (1933-1974). Conceived in the manner of yearbooks or almanacs, typology of which has developed abundantly over the 19th and 20th centuries, it draws up, from the collection of various data, the register of wine, commercial and industrial activity in the parishes of the demarcated region, indicating, within these, a set of information regarding services, public and private, and the wine produced by each producer, on a scale divided into intervals of 5 to 20, 21 to 50, 51 to 100 and more than 100 barrels. In this sense, the specific objectives of this communication are, first, to elaborate the proper criticism of the source, trying to explain its construction and purpose and, in a second part, the treatment of some of the data extracted from it, through its systematization and interpretation . From a general point of view, it is intended to contribute to the knowledge and recognition of this source in the context of the Estado Novo and its policies for the Demarcated Region.
