Entre Margens. Projeto de um Parque Urbano nas escarpas do vale do Rio Corgo

Abstract

Having at its basis the concept of architect as a social agent, the dissertation "Entre margens" is dedicated to the creation of a project with urban character which promotes the integration of a part of the Corgo river in Vila Real's structure, prizing the countless landscape resources of the region and revitalizing its central areas, promoting policies of physical recuperation and social reutilization. Through several key terms such as recuperating, reutilizing, and rehabilitating, the project development process starts from historical research and analysis, with the purpose of understanding in what way has the city of Vila Real changed throughout the years. The recognition of the several existing problems enables the focusing of the project on the search for solutions, in a way to restructure the city, satisfying the basic necessities of the inhabitants in its urban environment and increasing the attractiveness of its central areas. The project begins with the purpose of reconfiguring a piece of history within an existing place, establishing new interpretations and reinventing it. The joining of two opposed margins through a new line incorporated in the landscape will allow a new possibility of movement. The methodology used in this project consists in a process going from the entirety to the specificity, so as to comprehend the intervention as a whole, rather than merely resolving the terrain on which it sits, and incorporating it as well in the layout and urban settlement of the city.
