A Fábrica de Cima: teorias e projeto de reativação de estruturas pósindustriais. Uma proposta

Abstract

Nowadays, the Portuguese territory is intensely punctuated by post-industrial structures in a frank process of ruination, indicators of an industrial past. These structures possess a patrimonial value, regarding the time of their construction and antiquity, the quality and exceptionality dos the construction process used, but, also, by being repositories of collective memories that characterize and mark the local community where they insert. The present dissertation for the title of Master in Architecture, studies the possibilities that these elements offer as enhancers and dynamizes of a new urbanity in the space they are inserted. It has for base a case study - A Fábrica de Cima - localized in Castêlo da Maia, in the Metropolitan Area of Porto, and it tries to associate to the post-industrial structure a new program useful for the surrounding community. It is proposed to ally a reactivation of the existent structures to its preservation e patrimonial valorisation. As hypothesis, it is proposed a method of project action of these buildings that has in consideration its surroundings e its historical, social and cultural circumstances, that defines them, hoping that the new project comes up in continuity of the mutations of that structure and not as a rupture. As such, it is offered an analysis of current cases of other similar structures, considered as new approaches of various authors such as: Fábrica Confiança in Braga; the various reactivations like Asphalt Green in New York, Factory no 8 in Humpolec and Goldsmiths - Centre for Contemporary Art in London, of Pasanella + Klein, OK Plan Architects and Assemble Studio respectively; that highlights because of their experimentation and the alternative to other canonical approaches. Finally, it is proposed a project of intervention to the case study - Fábrica de Cima - mirroring some of the reflections taken in the theorical research, allying the will of urban and civic dynamization of the area of Castêlo da Maia and valuing the preservation of the existing post-industrial structure. The industrial production program is replaced by a new epicentre, facing it as a mean of civic participation, cultural and artistic production and social fomentation.
