Como se "vestia" o Vinho do Porto (séculos XVI e XVIII)

Abstract

This article intends to trace, in the light of current knowledge, the evolution of the forms used to store Port wineduring the 16th and 18th centuries, and to focus on the importance of the art of cooperage in the city of Porto, asthe first art of "dressing the wine ". Then the glass botle replaced the wood in the storage of Port Wine for somepurposes or complements it in the process of guarding and aging. For example, "Vintage Port" cannot beobtained without aging in glass bottles and the evolution of glass treatment technology is therefore closely linkedto the shape of the cylindrical bottle, the only one that allows to accommodate in the wineries the wines that afterremaining a year in wood, continue your aging process in the bottle itself.
