Habitação Plurifamiliar na obra de Fernando Lanhas. Um contributo para pensar a modernidade no Porto entre 1954 e 1968

Abstract

The complexity of Fernando Lanhas is revealed by its different faces. The present dissertation of MIARQ intends to deepen the thinking around the work of Fernando Lanhas and to study its Architecture, focusing on the multifamily housing of the 1950s and 1960s in Oporto. For this it is important to know your life path and the relationship of Architecture with your other activities.Considering that there is still much to study around his work and that there is no work that systematically analyzes his multi-family dwelling, five cases of study were chosen that allow the understanding of his work, in its multifaceted action, and of the context of the time: 1. building and garage Pinto Leite, Rua da Maternidade (1954); 2. Housing complex of Rua Henrique Pousão (1954-56); 3. Bastos Xavier building, Avenida Sidónio Pais (1957); 4. Guedes da Silva building, Rua Oliveira Monteiro (1961); 5. M.M. building Teixeira, Rua Heróis Mucaba (1968).His work takes place in a complex context of great transformations and accompanies chronologically the debate around modernity in Architecture. It goes through a process of evolution of modernism, in the sense of rooting in the local culture.This work is also intended to be a further contribution to the reflection on an important Portuguese architect and artist who studied and worked alongside well-known names in Portuguese Architecture and Painting, such as Fernando Távora and Nadir Afonso.
