The need to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the traditional instruments of OccupationalSafety and Health is a major modern paradigm faced by technicians working in this area. Motorways and its sustainability are key factors for the functioning of a modern society which requires functional pathways for rapid transportation of people and goods. Thus, in order to contribute to the systematization of knowledge in this area, the main objective of this work is to present a systematic review on the relationship between the effectiveness and efficiency of health and safety management on motorways. The systematic review methodology was the PRISMA Statement®. The search allowed to find 4495 articles based on defined keywords. After a preliminary examination, according to established rejection and inclusion criteria, 12 articles were considered relevant to a more detailed study. It was concluded that most of the produced articles fail to link or address the concepts of effectiveness and efficiency through the integration of general principles of prevention in production processes. In future investigations will be relevant exploring this important gap.
