Entre o permanente e o temporário: uma proposta de intervenção para um Antigo Armazém de Vinho do Porto

Abstract

The following dissertation, integrated in the Master of Architecture, consists on the execution of a rehabilitation project in an old Port Wine warehouse, located in the Historic Center of Vila Nova de Gaia, in the parish of Santa Marinha. It´s intended through this project proposal a broader reflection on the parameters of intervention in the Industrial Heritage, from the theoric and conceptual questions to the more objective ones, such as the constructive options.Through the Architectural Survey, the analysis, and the interpretation of the pre-existing, we begin the search for an adequate solution, a Project capable of elevating the building to a more contemporary age with a suitable renovated purpose. Based on the preservation and rehabilitation of the ancient warehouse and its adaptation to a new architectural programme, propelled by the new pressing requirements of society and through the study of the transformation processes, morphological principals and functions of the old Port Wine warehouse, it is developed a contemporary intervention which preserves the buildings´identity and reinterprets the intentions of its place, whilst being aware of the contemporary appropriations and perceptions. An intervention established and consolidated through a thorough study of its materialization and constructive solutions.In conclusion, our main objective, with the present dissertation and subject of study, it's to propose a general discussion regarding the issues related to the proper formal conception of the proposed project, and last and not least, to the reflection on the rising needs of the Historic center, in order to reverse the single function buildings on the riverside front and the vacancy of its interior.
