Terminal intermodal de Campanhã: conceitos e reflexões em torno de um projecto de requalificação urbana

Abstract

The present dissertation consists of a proposal for the elaboration of a project for the intermodal terminal in Campanhã, in the city of Porto.The project is part of a public competition for the elaboration of a platform that would complement the pre-existing mobility services in Campanhã's interface. Its scope is not simply limited to the construction of the building, but also to the urban requalification of all surrounding area, with the intent of boosting the development of Porto's eastern area.This thesis revolves around the concepts that characterise the relation between architecture and the city, namely the peripheral city, which is precarious from a social and urban point of view. Thus, the themes generated by the place and project will be reflected upon, in the light of both architectural and artistic thinking.Using the notions of absence, movement and identity, the contact between each one of the fields is made clear, as the implicit overlap between them is necessary.The approach to the place and the project, as well as the intervention proposal, aim to translate the addressed issues into architectural design, in a symbiotic and inseparable relationship between theory and practice.
