Abstract: The goal of this work is the use of anatomically realistic blood flow simulations by the finite element method derived from in vivo medical imaging to obtain patient-specific flow phenomena associated with the atherosclerosis disease. A good agreement between ultrasound imaging data and computational simulated results was achieved.</description>

Description: Neste trabalho apresenta-se o desenvolvimento de uma metodologia de análise das
condições hemodinâmicas da bifurcação carotídea baseada em imagens de ultrassonografia
hospitalar. A aplicação de uma técnica de segmentação semiautomática de imagens em modo B
permite a construção do modelo 3D da bifurcação e quantificação do grau de estenose. A partir
das imagens Doppler em modo PW deduzem-se as restantes condições necessárias à análise
hemodinâmica. A metodologia é exemplificada com dados de um utente hospitalar com doença
carotídea</description>

Description: Os sistemas de ultrassonografia permitem investigar as condições hemodinâmicas da
bifurcação carotídea. Neste trabalho as imagens de ultrassonografia das carótidas são
analisadas exaustivamente permitindo a utilização de uma metodologia de redes neuronais
artificiais capaz de simular o fluxo nas artérias carótidas ao longo do eixo carotídeo. A
metodologia enquadra-se na pesquisa de parâmetros objetivos capazes de separar
comportamentos hemodinâmicos diferentes para diversos graus de severidade da doença
carotídea.</description>

      <description>Title: Intermittent connection effect in the Message Ferry Delay Tolerant Network
Abstract: Delay Tolerant Networks (DTN) give a base of communication that permits the delivery of data within harsh environments or even between networks without interconnection. The connection between networks happens when some nodes cross between them and carry information. Our model consists of the Message Ferry Mobility Model (MFMM) where all nodes in the network are confined to their village except one mobile node (the message ferry). In order to reduce the energy consumption the wireless interface is not always on. We aim to study how much does the on/off state of the wireless interface reduces the total connection time available in the MFMM. To answer this question, we created a simulator that uses the MFMM. The simulator generated mobility traces of all nodes and measured the contact time under different patterns of the on/off cycle. As expected the contact time are longer when the interface is active more often. However we found an unanticipated reduction in contact time vs active wireless interface ratio. Hence, we concluded that in the MFMM, the on/off duty-cycle of the wireless interface influences the total contact times.</description>
