Abstract: Feature and structure identification in medical images allows a faster identification of certain 
anomalies and diseases. The study presented here enables the automatic reconstruction of the
arterial bifurcation lumen axis using carotid B-mode ultrasound images. The segmentation
methodology introduces new indexes in the automatic process aiming better accuracy in the
selection of the correct artery structure as compared to previously published developments.</description>

Abstract: Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) is one of the leading causes of individuals' reduced participation in various contexts of life, compromising autonomous functioning and performance in complex activities. Neurocognitive rehabilitation, carried out by transdisciplinary teams, is part of the intervention after the acute phase, aiming patients' maximum functionality and quality of life. Serious games and virtual reality begin to provide innovative solutions in this area. In this study, a prototype platform for the rehabilitation of executive functioning and other related cognitive functions is presented: the Virtual City. Part of a larger project, it consists of urban virtual environments that simulate real-life scenarios and activities. Tests will be performed to validate it as a tool for the rehabilitation of ABI.</description>

Abstract: Musculoskeletal disorders are one of the most common work-related disease. Nevertheless, sometimes, even for an expert, is very difficult to establish the relationship between work and sickness by the huge number of variables that may influence the outcome of these diagnoses. By these reasons, the authors aim to present a systematic review of prevalence and incidence of MSD related with occupational risk factors. Only a few studies were found with comparable approaches and that are considered by the authors adequate to prove this relation. More studies are needed to clarify the relation between work and WRMSD's, especially prospective investigations, ranging from broad economic sectors and work activities, with similar methodologies.</description>

Abstract: Access control models describe frameworks that dictate how subjects (e.g. users) access resources. In the Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) model access to resources is based on the role the user holds within the organization. RBAC is a rigid model where access control decisions have only two output options: Grant or Deny. Break The Glass (BTG) policies on the other hand are flexible and allow users to break or override the access controls in a controlled and justifiable manner. The main objective of this paper is to integrate BTG within the NEST/ANSI RBAC model in a transparent and secure way so that it can be adopted generically in any domain where unanticipated or emergency situations may occur. The new proposed model, called BTG-RBAC, provides a third decision option BTG, which grants authorized users permission to break the glass rather than be denied access. This can easily be implemented in any application without major changes to either the application code or the RBAC authorization infrastructure, apart from the decision engine. Finally, in order to validate the model, we discuss how the BTG-RBAC model is being introduced within a Portuguese healthcare institution where the legislation requires that genetic information must be accessed by a restricted group of healthcare professionals. These professionals, advised by the ethical committee, have required and asked for the implementation of the BTG concept in order to comply with the said legislation.</description>

Abstract: Access control to Electronic Patient Records (EPR) may greatly depend on users' objectives and needs. The purpose of this study is to assess the opinions of medical doctors within a university hospital towards access control to an EPR. We selected a randomized sample of 58 doctors from a university hospital and 45 structured interviews were applied. 42 respondents (93%) agree with the existence of access control levels to patient information according to healthcare professionals' category and 31 (69%) think that more sensitive information (e.g. HIV) should be accessed only by doctors that treat those patients. As 24 doctors (53%) feel that there is no need for them to see all information about all the patients, 41 (91%) think that nurses should not be able to do it also. Further, 31 doctors (69%) believe that patients themselves should not access their full medical record. These results show that it is very hard to get to a consensual policy regarding access control to. EPR by its regular users. There is therefore the need for a multidisciplinary agreement that can include healthcare professionals' experiences and needs in order to define the most appropriate and efficient way to perform access control to the EPR.</description>

Abstract: The Musculoskeletal disorders are a heterogeneous group of diseases that include peripheral nerve compressions, muscular and vascular disorders, tendinitis and tenosynovitis. Tend to be referred to as being related directly or indirectly with the work. It is intended with this article to contribute to clarify this relationship. Are provided clues stemming from results of three evaluations by three different methods done independently, but coordinated, by three teams, to the same group of workers. The study had as targeted a factory with 620 workers, 166 of whom work in the studied production sector. The sample consisted of 109 individuals which have been assessed by three different methods (nordic inquiry, medical examination and RULA). From this evaluation was diagnosed DME in workers that didn't present symptoms. This strand unexpected and not habitually addressed needs further studies. Abstract: Musculoskeletal disorders are a major cause of sickness and absenteeism. However the relationship between musculoskeletal disease and work is not always clear. This paper aims to present some preliminary results, on a descriptive analysis of the methodology developed and applied in the project LL-LACTOGAL. It is expected to give a contribution to the clarification of this relationship. The project is in development in a specific production sector of a food industry unit. The approach spans seven different methods. A description of the overall sample and some preliminary results are presented. The preliminary results give an overall picture of musculoskeletal disease signals in the plant.</description>

Abstract: This work aims at 3D model reconstruction and hemodynamic analysis of carotid bifurcations based on hospital ultrasound images. The suggested approach addresses B mode image segmentation as a pattern recognition problem and boundary velocity conditions are extracted from Doppler PW mode velocity data. Both tasks are solved using a combination of artificial neural network (ANN) tools. The development of an integrated technique for geometric reconstruction, structured meshing, blood flow simulation and hemodynamic analysis of the carotid bifurcation enables the quantification of the degree of stenosis and promotes the understanding of how hemodynamic factors are involved in atherosclerotic disease.</description>

Abstract: This study aims to describe heart rate variability during the first episode of plateau waves of intracranial pressure (ICP) in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in order to characterize and identify at bedside this cerebrovascular phenomenon. The general behavior of the heart rate variability (HRV) spectral measures expressed in the medians across patients is concordant with an increased HRV in the latter part of the baseline and plateau wave, followed by a decrease after the event and a new increase during the recovery. In low and high frequency bands the same increase is more marked in the parametric analysis. Interpretation of HRV may help clinicians to better identify the plateau waves and allow earlier management.</description>
