These communities of citizens - also dubbed as civic hackers - are gaining ground in several smart city strategies; yet, still little is known about their motivations and the geographies they mobilize in their initiatives. Therefore, this article has three main objectives, namely i) to explore concepts and practices of civic hackers; ii) to shed light on their motivations to contribute to the resolution of civic challenges and iii) to hypothesise on the role of the territory and geography for their processes of knowledge creation and innovation. Description: Os discursos mais democráticos e inclusivos de smart cities redirecionam o foco da inovação desde as grandes empresas tecnológicas em direção a comunidades de cidadãos comprometidos com a resolução de problemas urbanos, referenciados na literatura como civic hackers. Todavia, apesar da sua crescente centralidade para as estratégias de smart cities, pouco se sabe ainda sobre este tipo de atores, sobre como participam na construção de smart cities, bem como sobre as redes e geografias que mobilizam para as suas atividades. It is based on a survey applied to a convenience sample of corporate lawyers. The study shows the lack of control and compulsive tendencies contribute to explaining the phenomenon under discussion. It can be concluded through regression analysis that the position held, time at the office and working hours contribute as predictors for workaholism. Description: O artigo analisa o workaholism na advocacia societária portuguesa, procurando medir este fenómeno através do Work Addiction Risk Test (wart) - um instrumento de autoavaliação sobre dimensões relativas a tendências compulsivas, falta de controlo, comunicação prejudicada e autoabsorção, incapacidade de delegar e autoestima. Through an immersive ethnographic work, it was possible to closely follow the radical changes that took place, from the demolition of the five housing blocks to the construction of a single block. In short, our methodology was guided by the following phases: 1) a series of exploratory visits to analyze the spatial morphology, the living conditions, the forms of occupation of shared spaces and the atmosphere of the neighborhood (receptivity, sense of security, accesses, flow of nonresidents); 2) further research into the history, context, and contemporary setting of the site; and 3) the close observation and follow up of two families from old residents. The idea of using photography as a resource for data collection and representation of the situation was due to its ability to convey the impact of the changes on the landscape, on the lives of the residents, and on their narratives before the demolition of their homes and after moving to their new homes. We registered details inside their old homes (their old lives), before being packed up, or discarded in the move to the new apartments. Furthermore, photography was taken as a tangible reminiscence for these people, remnant of their past life. It analyses separately the burnout associated with teaching and research activities, relating its development to antecedent and consequent variables such as gender, contractual relationship, perceived pressure, the imbalance between effort and reward, satisfaction, performance, work-family conflict, and career abandonment. Based on a survey applied to Portuguese higher education teachers, it highlights that burnout is not an individual problem, but originates from the organizational conditions of the exercise of professional activity, showing a relationship between the satisfaction intrinsic to the teaching career and the low willingness to leave, besides the effects on the intensification of work-family conflict. It concludes on the relevance of assessing the diversity of activities underlying the teaching career in higher education and the stressful factors faced by professionals, as well as their effects on work performance, health, and quality of life. Analisa separadamente o burnout associado às atividades de docência e investigação, relacionando o seu desenvolvimento a variáveis antecedentes e consequentes como género, vínculo contratual, pressão percebida, desequilíbrio entre esforço e recompensa, satisfação, desempenho, conflito trabalho-família e abandono da carreira. The definition of the importance of each researcher is defined upon their bibliographic production volume, i.e., number of publications, and also upon their centrality in the general network of researchers. In fact, the centrality of a researcher in a network reveals its importance in communication flows with other researchers, thus assuming that communication between researchers is itself a relevant factor for organizational life and in its production. Both network and centrality concepts are better interpreted in a graphical way. In this study, we explore the workflow that will provide these visualizations and focus in the empirical selection of the most appropriate centrality measure. We also propose a centrality visualization method that facilitates the interpretation of the selected measures. Description: A construção de uma rede de afinidade de investigadores através do processamento automático das suas publicações permite obter uma perspetiva que vai para além das redes estabelecidas através da coautoria. A definição da importância de cada investigador parte do seu volume de produção bibliográfica, i.e., número de publicações, e também da sua centralidade na rede geral de investigadores. De facto, a centralidade de um investigador numa rede revela a sua importância nos fluxos de comunicação com os outros investigadores, pressupondo deste modo que a comunicação entre investigadores é, em si própria, um fator relevante para a vida organizacional e na sua produção. Tanto os conceitos de rede como de centralidade são melhor interpretados de forma gráfica. Neste estudo, exploramos o fluxo de trabalho que proporcionará estas visualizações e focamos na seleção empírica da medida de centralidade mais adequada. Propomos também um método de visualização da centralidade que facilite a interpretação das medidas selecionadas.
