PLACES - A Web Platform for Accessibility

Title: PLACES - A Web Platform for Accessibility
Abstract: How many times a person does not understand a videobecause cannot access its sound? How often persons havewondered about how interesting it would be to have acertain book in audio format, to continue reading whiledoing other activities? With the exponential growth of digitization ofinformation in contemporary society, it is essential toadopt accessibility policies to technologies andinformation systems. The provided information should be considered fordifferent users and different usage contexts. The moreversatile or flexible the format is, the more useful andeffective it can be for everyone.Aiming to contribute to an increasingly universaldesign, an online platform with tutorials that provideguidelines for creating accessible digital documentsformatted in Word, PowerPoint and HTML wasimplemented. In addition, two experimental tools wereprovided: one for reading mathematical formulas writtenin MathML and the other to convert to text and speechsimple SVG images, allowing the user to navigatethrough the description. The challenge is, on one hand, to give usersknowledge about tools that already offer resources tocreate accessibility, and that due to general lack ofinformation are simply just not used; on the other hand,as done in the following chapter on HTML, to review theusefulness of fundamental aspects and some strategies tocreate and provide information.

Title: Developing an interpretation centre for portuguese design : CIDESP.PT
Abstract: Considering the lack of importance of the discipline in the Portuguese and international context, this paper aims to present and discuss a museological and museographic project that's in its early stage and started to be developed concerned with Portuguese design history and design studies. The focus on the theme Portuguese design is justified by the extent of the heritage of communication artefacts, equipment and environment, presently dispersed about the country and at risk of disappearing into oblivion. The paper present's an approach based in a new hermeneutical dimension which methodology will be centered on the study of the artefacts based on the 'inverse design' and it will be focused on the morphogenetic study, related with their importance next to the public sphere. Considering the specificity of Portuguese design history the paper refers' some notes on this subject, giving some examples that can be considered as some starting references to proceed with the project. The results of this research it will be declined in augmented interactive representations regarding the importance of the personal narratives related with the selected artifacts. This project seeks to contribute to the minimization of the invisibility of design Portuguese knowledge and to be used as a model to other countries.

Technologies of knowledge: the teaching of non-verbal language in the era of Web 2.0

Title: Technologies of knowledge: the teaching of non-verbal language in the era of Web 2.0
Abstract: In the context of Technological Issues in Education_ Classroom and Laboratory: Integration, the work that we propose, shows the main points presented to investigate possible interferences that occur in the subjects of education as creative elements in the production of images for different media / medium they use. Aware that technology and art have always coexisted in practice, we propose an analysis not to the results of experiments conducted by the artistic using a certain technology, but an analysis of the processes of construction and solidification of communication in certain learning contexts. We exclusively dedicate our attention to digital technology, and more specifically to the issues that the technology uses to communicate and it's representation in different contexts such as the analogical and digital [1]. We do not intend to do a chronological collection or present a set of situations and examples that demonstrate how technology has affected the perception and the construction of the world. In this sense, our proposal attempts to clarify some issues that seem relevant when talking about the process of using communications technology and information [2] applied to the teaching and learning to another process that is the drawing. What we study is whether these tools serve to communicate and who is expressed through non-verbal language, such as image, particularly drawn pictures. We do not refer to the use of the computer as a tool or as a means of dissemination. These issues are obviously outdated and the computer is used in drawing classes like any other tool available. The implications and changes that a tool like the computer might have not only to the communication between the participants in this case education but well as the development of procedural construction and solidification of an idea that deserves our attention. It is our obligation as teachers to be alert to the signs outside and to be able to provide students with mechanisms , tools and strategies that can support and develop their skills enabling them to produce, implement and develop expertise in future practice. Therefore, our contribution to the discussion at this meeting relates to the presence of digital technology in today's society and more specifically in the context: "Technology and art education."

Title: The Teaching of Drawing in the Era of Web 2.0
Abstract: Our proposal attempts to clarify some issues that seem relevant when talking about the process of using information and communications technology (ICT) [1] applied to the teaching and learning drawing. On the text we'll look at the contribution of ICT to arts education and how it seems that the implementation of networked education can contribute to a dynamic and collaborative learning, and the possibility to promote the digital tool in the conceptualization and development of a Project.

Contributos Modernistas à Plasticidade Sonora do Documentário (1930-1940)

Title: Contributos Modernistas à Plasticidade Sonora do Documentário (1930-1940)
Abstract: The experimental attitude proclaimed by modernist avant-garde was present, not only in fine arts practices held by futurists, dadaists, surrealists or constructivists artists, but also in the way they have made artistic use of the new technical possibilities introduced by phonographic or cinematographic equipments. A new and experimental representation of real through sound and film collages, full of plastic and ritmic elements coming from painting and music, as well as from the acusmatic sound and pre-sound practices of cinema. Reality that became more "understandable" through naturalistic film representation of sound and images, of montage, assumed for most of the cinematographic documentary films. Films where sound became informative in his words, realistic in his synchronized noises and talks, dramatic and heroic in sounds contrapuntist and non- synchronized approach to image narrative. Poetic sounds that give the sense of artistic freedom experimented by the avant-garde noise and radioart, even when linked to "reality" too (a film it's always a construction).
