Abstract: The Digital Health course unit, offered across the University
of Porto since the 2020/21 academic year, stands out as an innovative practice in higher education. Grounded in an active,
interdisciplinary model, it promotes student-centered learning, real-world problem-solving and the development of digital health competencies. Students from various disciplines -
including medicine, nursing, engineering, computer science,
psychology, and management - collaborate to develop innovative solutions through project-based learning, design thinking and gamification.
Outcomes include implementable ideas, student participation
in entrepreneurial initiatives, and the replication of this educational model in European programs. The course unit provides a safe space for experimentation, empowering students
for health innovation and reinforcing the university's commitment to societal transformation.
Description: A unidade curricular (UC) Saúde Digital, transversal
à Universidade do Porto, tem sido lecionada desde o ano letivo
2020/21 e constitui uma prática inovadora no ensino superior.
Assente num modelo ativo e interdisciplinar, promove a aprendizagem centrada no estudante, a resolução de problemas
reais e o desenvolvimento de competências digitais em saúde.
A UC envolve estudantes de diversas áreas - como medicina,
enfermagem, engenharia, informática, psicologia ou gestão
- que colaboram no desenvolvimento de soluções inovadoras para desafios reais, através de metodologias como a aprendizagem baseada em projetos, o design thinking e a gamificação.
Os resultados incluem ideias com aplicabilidade prática,
participação dos estudantes em iniciativas empreendedoras
e replicação do modelo em programas europeus. A UC afirma-se como um espaço seguro de experimentação, capacitando os estudantes para a inovação em saúde e reforçando
o compromisso da universidade com a transformação social.</summary>

    <summary type="text">Title: Prescrição cultural
Abstract: Art and culture play a fundamental role in several aspects
of human life, including health, as evidenced by the World
Health Organization's report (Fancourt &amp; Saoirse, 2019).
Cultural prescription, which advocates that health professionals
can prescribe cultural and artistic experiences to promote
well-being, has been adopted and studied in international
contexts, due to the growing recognition of its positive impact
on different spheres of human life (Jensen et al, 2024). Given
the absence of this dimension in the curricular units (UC)
of University of Porto courses, the creation of this UC addresses this need, focusing on the development of transversal
skills in the area.
The multidisciplinary nature of the syllabus, the contact
with teachers from different areas in different venues
and the translation of theory into lived experiences provide
an enriching training opportunity for students, redefining
and expanding the learning spaces into the cultural sphere,
and fostering a networked collaboration between the university,
cultural institutions, and civil society, with significant
formative and relational potential. Thus, this experience provides,
on the one hand, the interdisciplinary appropriation
of scientific knowledge on the relationship between art and
health and the relevance of cultural prescription for the individual
and for society and, on the other, personal and attitudinal
development, nourished by content and methods based
on humanistic, relational and collaborative perspectives, experienced
in workshops and in the development of cultural prescription
projects.
The transdisciplinary nature of the course has also fostered
scientific, disciplinary and pedagogical synergies between lecturers,
through the joint preparation and orientation of sessions,
in an innovative partnership between higher education
lecturers, scientists and artists.
Description: A arte e a cultura desempenham um papel fundamental
em diversos aspetos da vida humana, nomeadamente
na saúde, como evidencia o relatório da Organização Mundial de Saúde (OMS) (Fancourt &amp; Saoirse, 2019). A prescrição
cultural, que preconiza que profissionais de saúde
possam prescrever experiências culturais e artísticas para
promoção do bem-estar, tem vindo a ser adotada e estudada
no contexto internacional, justamente pelo reconhecimento
crescente do seu impacto positivo em diferentes esferas
da vida humana (Jensen et. al., 2024). Dada a ausência
desta dimensão nas unidades curriculares (UC) dos cursos
da Universidade do Porto, a criação desta UC vem colmatar
este hiato, orientando-se para o desenvolvimento de competências
transversais a partir deste domínio.
O cariz multidisciplinar do plano de estudos, o contacto
com docentes de diferentes áreas em lugares diversificados e a
vivência prática da teoria configuram uma oportunidade formativa
enriquecedora para os estudantes, redefinindo e estendendo
os lugares de aprendizagem à esfera da cultura, promovendo
um trabalho em rede entre universidade, espaços
culturais e sociedade civil, com potencial formativo e relacional
significativo. Neste sentido, esta experiência proporciona,
por um lado, a apropriação interdisciplinar de conhecimento
científico sobre a relação entre arte e saúde e sobre a relevância da prescrição cultural para a pessoa e para a sociedade e,
por outro, o desenvolvimento pessoal e atitudinal, alimentado
por conteúdos e métodos alicerçados numa perspetiva humanista,
relacional e colaborativa, ensaiada em workshops e na
elaboração de projetos de prescrição cultural.
A transdisciplinaridade da UC tem sido também promotora
de sinergias científicas, disciplinares e pedagógicas entre
os docentes, através da preparação e dinamização conjunta
das sessões por elementos de diferentes unidades orgânicas
e/ou de diferentes campos de atuação profissional, numa
parceria inovadora entre docentes do ensino superior, cientistas
e artistas.</summary>

Abstract: Restoring coral reefs and enhancing marine biodiversity are critical global challenges. This paper presents a comprehensive biomimetic design approach using additive manufacturing and sustainable materials to develop artificial substrates for coral propagation. The methodology encompasses several vital steps: design inspiration from nature and understanding their ecological functions; developing variants of 3D models tailored to target species, with an emphasis on optimizing shape for effective propagation and fixation methods; designing substrates to provide suitable habitats for microorganisms and other marine species; and evaluating the biocompatibility of the employed materials. A detailed case study illustrates the progress in different typologies of coral propagation systems, emphasizing the primary aspects necessary to ensure efficiency. The growth evolution of coral fragments in the substrate was analyzed for 493 days in an aquarium. The studys findings offer insights and future considerations for designing artificial substrates and artificial reefs aimed at marine restoration, underscoring the importance of integrating ecological functions, material science, and advanced manufacturing techniques. This process-driven approach demonstrates the potential for innovative solutions to support the sustainability and resilience of marine ecosystems.     <summary type="text">Title: A importância dos modelos numéricos na previsão dos efeitos das alterações climáticas e dos eventos extremos em áreas estuarinas
Abstract: &lt;jats:p&gt;O conhecimento pormenorizado da hidrodinâmica estuarina é fulcral para a tomada de medidas que permitam reduzir a vulnerabilidade e aumentar a resiliência dos estuários. Os modelos numéricos podem desempenhar um papel fundamental no apoio à decisão, mas para tal é necessário que produzam resultados fiáveis. Com esse objetivo é proposta a técnica dos ensembles, que permite combinar os resultados de diferentes modelos. Este é o principal objetivo do projeto EsCo-Ensembles, no qual foram desenvolvidos dois modelos numéricos diferentes aplicados nos estuários do Douro e do Minho e para os quais foram desenhados diversos cenários, considerando estados atuais e futuros, fluxos de cheia e valores extremos do nível do mar segundo as projeções dos RCPs do IPCC. É esperado que os resultados deste projeto forneçam uma caracterização hidromorfodinâmica completa das áreas estuarinas consideradas, permitindo avaliar tendências futuras e estimar os riscos de inundação, demostrando que o uso combinado de diferentes modelos reduz a sua incerteza e aumenta a confiança e consistência das previsões.&lt;/jats:p&gt;</summary>
