Abstract: Appropriate dietary habits can improve physical performance and recovery from exercise
through well-chosen and individually planned nutritional strategies. This manual aims to
summarize these strategies by focusing on the calculation of the energy needs of the athlete,
the type, amount and timing of nutritional intake and fluid to maintain and promote optimum
health and adaptation to training.
Nutritional interventions in specific and critical situations for an athlete such as muscle
hypertrophy and weight loss were also addressed. Briefly we also addressed the issue of sports
supplementation. To ensure proper application and individualization of the guidelines
proposed by this manual, athletes should be evaluated and followed by a health professional
namely a nutritionist, preferably with training and experience in sports nutrition.
Description: A alimentação pode melhorar o rendimento e a recuperação do exercício através de
estratégias nutricionais bem escolhidas e individualmente planeadas. Este manual pretende
resumir estas estratégias, focando-se no cálculo das necessidades energéticas do atleta, do
tipo, quantidade e momento de ingestão nutricional e de fluidos para manter e promover uma
ótima saúde e adaptação ao treino.
As intervenções nutricionais em situações específicas e fundamentais para um atleta, como a
hipertrofia muscular e a perda de peso, foram também abordadas, assim como, de uma forma
resumida, a temática e a problemática da suplementação desportiva. Para garantir uma
correta aplicação e individualização das linhas orientadoras propostas por este manual, os
atletas deveriam ser avaliados e seguidos por um profissional de saúde, nomeadamente por
um nutricionista, de preferência com formação e experiência em nutrição desportiva</summary>
