Title: Kinetic modeling of the molecular architecture of cross-linked copolymers synthesized by controlled radical polymerization techniques
Abstract: A recently developed general kinetic approach, based on population balances in terms of generating functions, is applied to the modeling of the molecular architecture of branched copolymers produced through controlled radical polymerization (CRP) techniques, namely nitroxide-mediated radical polymerization (NMRP) and atom-transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Thanks to this method, it is possible to carry out dynamic predictions of distributions of molecular weights, sequence lengths and z-average mean square radius of gyration of the products, both before and after gelation (whenever it occurs) with consideration of complex kinetic schemes. The model chemical systems styrene + divinylbenzene (S/DVB) and methyl methacrylate + ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (MMA/EGDMA) are experimentally investigated in order to assess the prediction capabilities of the aforementioned approach. Measurements of absolute molecular weights and z-average radius of gyration of the copolymers are performed for different times of polymerization using a SEC system with a refractive index detector coupled with MALLS. It is shown that the proposed computational tool can enhance the possibility of better design of these complex materials but additional studies concerning the impact of intramolecular cyclizations on the structure of materials synthesized at diluted conditions are needed.

Abstract: There have been several efforts to understand the etiology of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and to find the cure for such debilitating disease. Despite the efforts, there is still no cure or effective treatment for AD. Many reasons contribute for such disappointing outcome, being one of them the fact that the transportation through the blood-brain barrier (BBB) remains an obstacle. Immunoliposomes are drug carriers that can be used to encapsulate and to deliver drug molecules through biological membranes as the BBB. In the present work, the integrity of immunoliposomes coated with monoclonal antibodies (mAb) against endogenous receptors of the BBB was studied by different techniques including cryo-scanning electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering.

Abstract: This article corresponds to a case study with 6 young male military who were tested for three types of exertion: marching without load, marching with load, and running at two different environmental conditions: thermoneutral (± 22°C and ± 40% rh) and thermal stress (± 40°C and ± 30% rh), with two adaptation levelsunacclimated and acclimated to the thermal stress condition. Core temperature, heart rate, VO2,body mass loss, and lactate were measured; the Borg Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE) was also used. The thermal stress situation decreased the overall physiological performance and increased the rate of perceived exertion. After acclimation all participants improved their overall performance.
Title: Entre epidemias e pandemias: as diferentes dimensões da crise do Ébola 2013/2016

Abstract: The IEEE 802.15.4 standard proposes a flexible communication solution for Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Networks, including Wireless Sensor Networks. In these networks, the transmission of messages or the Guaranteed Time Slot allocation are coordinated by the traditional CSMA/CA scheme, which does not provide any additional traffic differentiation mechanism. In a previous work, we proposed an approach that assigns priorities to the messages based on the (m, k)-firm task model. This paper proposes, in a complementary way, an experimental assessment in order to define the best parameters for messages prioritization. The experimental assessment considers a realistic scenario in which a set of sensor nodes, implementing the proposed scheme works in the same coverage area of another set of nodes that does not belong to the same Wireless Sensor Networks infrastructure.

Abstract: This paper proposes a multi-criteria analysis model to acoustically characterize a specific type of building: museums. Significant acoustic objective parameters are used and logically weighted (after analysis of questionnaires and interviews for subjective responses of visitors) to find a representative unique index of evaluation of a room, the IAQM (Index of Acoustic Quality in Museums) rated on a scale from 0 (worst) to 20 (best). The acoustic parameters used are: Reverberation Time (RT), weighted standardized sound level difference of facades (D2m,nT,w), Rapid Speech Transmission Index (RASTI), LAeq (from HVAC background noise) and L'nT,w (weighted standardized field impact sound pressure level). The multi-criteria mathematical model is presented and numerically tested with two museums.
